Step back into time and live like a sailor during World War II. The ship was not designed as a tourist attraction, but as a warship. Book your night on SLATER and earn your sea legs!
Walk yourself around the ship and learn about each of the decks, compartments, and weapons!
Dive deep into destroyer escort history and use these materials to help you along the way, inside and outside the classroom.
Aboard USS SLATER, you’ll get to walk in the footsteps of heroes. The ship is restored to exactly how it looked in 1945, get transported back in time and learn how the Greatest Generation fought for their lives.
Many local libraries participate in the Museum Pass Program, whereby libraries offer free family passes to local cultural institutions. See which libraries carry our pass!
DE Classified is a podcast showcasing the history of destroyer escorts. Each month, a member of USS SLATER’s education crew will highlight a specific destroyer escort and share the stories of the sailors who served aboard these ships.
Using a 360-degree camera, we have captured the ship and can “walk” you around each space. Using Zoom or Google Meet, we can share our screen with you, and it’ll be almost as though you are aboard the ship yourself!
The Destroyer Escort Historical Museum staff and volunteers have been collecting oral histories from destroyer escort veterans and WWII veterans since 1998.
Our volunteers will travel to Libraries, Schools, American Legion Posts, VFWs, etc., and speak about the history of USS SLATER and other destroyer escorts. Most presentations are an hour in length, but all of them can be customized to fit your needs.
