USS VANCE
As one of the few DEs to serve through World War II into the Vietnam War, USS Vance (DE-387) has a story like no other. She braced the Atlantic to defend convoys against U-boats, spent months in chilly Antarctic waters as part of Operation Deep Freeze and endured 99 days of command under one the most cantankerous commanding officers the US Navy had ever seen.
