Day 54
25 August 2020
Brown Charter provided a bus to take our volunteer riding crew down to the yard. They left Albany at 0700. Not before our cook, Blair Sandri, had breakfast served aboard SLATER at 0500.
Blair was commemorated for his excellent service, talent, humor to keep us fed throughout the yard time. Ed presented him with this award “Meals on Keels” on Tuesday before we left. I don’t know what we would have done without him.
Light projects like securing deck plates, painting, removing all garbage, and vacuuming, were completed while the crew waited for the bus to arrive.
At 1000 the bus arrived and we delivered the last check to Caddell’s office. By noon we were ready to begin flooding the drydock.
SLATER pulled out of Drydock number 5 (leak free) at 1345 and made her way north with NYS Marine tugs SARAH D. and MARGOT.
It was dark by the time we passed West Point, and our RPI Midshipmen made sure to signal “Go Navy! Beat Army” in Morse Code as we passed.
Blair was awarded a “Meals on Keels” plaque for all his hard work.
Ready for breakfast.
Coffee anyone?

Thomas - most of our photos come from him, he also completes just about any job that is given to him, and he climbs in the bilges often.
Jaquie Slater from News Channel 13 was along for the ride.
On the bridge, watching the world go by.
Ed was in the yard for all six weeks and never left. He served as our shipyard coordinator, we couldn't have done it without him.
We dropped off our last check to the yard. See ya Slater!
